Utrecht introduces green roofs on bus shelters to promote air quality and biodiversity

 

The Dutch city of Utrecht has covered 316 bus shelters with greenery, mainly made up of sedum plants. The shelters foster urban biodiversity by supporting honeybees, bumblebees and other forms of life, and they also help capture fine dust and store rainwater. But the efforts towards sustainability at the bus stop don’t end there: all the┬ástops have all been fitted with energy-efficient LED lights and bamboo benches.
