US cities lead for sustainability

 

According to JLL Capital Markets, Chicago, Philadelphia and Atlanta are leading examples in the efforts to cut greenhouse gases emissions with extensive city-wide plans. A recent article on The Investor also noted that the US have the largest inventory of LEED certified buildings. Tom Roundell Greene, Director, Global Sustainability at JLL observed “We are seeing significant improvements in heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, along with greater use of efficient lighting, and a focus on improved plant and infrastructure.” However, to be successful, real estate developers and property companies need to be on board too. The benefits of a more sustainable approach to building construction and management go beyond energy savings to include risk mitigation, brand enhancement, heightened innovation, employee recruitment, retention and productivity.
