Solar panels startup teams up with Google to reduce design and installation costs

Aurora Solar, a solar software company, has recently finalized a partnership with Google. The startup, which markets a software to design and estimate solar panels installations, will be able to include the tech giant’s datasets including Light Detection and HD Imagery, into its modeling.  This new data partnership aims at cutting the costs at the beginning of the process, when a roof is assessed for solar potential and shading, those soft costs, associated with permitting, financing, installing and customer acquisition, usually account for over 60% of solar system costs in the U.S. The new data, in addition to that already used by Aurora, will expand its coverage to international locations in Western Europe and over 90 percent of the U.S. population.
