Our main objective was the reconstruction and replacement of a partially collapsed combined sewer outfall that discharges into Bowery Bay. The replacement included installing a new 14'7"-wide by 8'-high box culvert, restoring the outfall’s necessary functions to avoid a potential full collapse and failure. Gedeon conducted a post-construction flew the Flyability Elios 3 into the culvert to perform an as-built assessment.
From the safety of the surface, the team collected thermal images, 4K video, and survey grade LiDAR data from which confirmatory measurements could be extracted. Compared to traditional, confined space entry inspections which can take hours, Gedeon’s Robotics Department was able to collect all relevant data in just a matter of minutes and without manned entry into the site.
The point cloud and video data were then processed, where the conditions and potential concerns could be easily referenced. Reviewing data confirmed the same outcome from the traditional inspection, that the site was defect free and ready to be handed back off to the client.
