Alphabet moves into infrastructure investing

 

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has teamed up with the Ontario teachers Pension Fund to launch Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners (SIP), a new tech-based infrastructure investment fund. Possible joint infrastructure projects could include tech-enabled systems for stormwater management, neighborhood heating and cooling, and advanced traffic controls. The New York and San Francisco Bay Area-based firm will specifically focus on advanced mobility, energy, water and waste, digital infrastructure, and social infrastructure sectors. The Wall Street Journal reports that it will invest in large-scale projects that require more than $100 million of equity.
